Why you should start photographing your home ASAP
Updated: Sep 29
This year, I suddenly realized something that all our many moves had somehow failed to teach me: a home can change before you even notice it happening.

My son is about to finish T-K, and the nursery I chose every little detail of is about to change almost beyond recognition.
His convertible crib is on its very last configuration. We’ve already read most of the books on his shelves. And it won’t be long before he stops climbing onto the giant giraffe in the corner.
So, in attempt of not getting sad about it, I started photographing things.

The little corners. The objects. The details that change so gradually that one day you look around and realize the room has somehow become completely different.

Year after year, we change something around the house. We replace a piece of furniture, move a lamp, repaint a wall, outgrow a room. At the time, every change feels tiny. Almost insignificant.
And then a few years pass, and you realize: this house is not the house we had before.

With a child’s bedroom, you expect it. You know the room is going to grow with them. Soon this one will be rebuilt from scratch, this time for a preschooler. It will be different and probably nice.
But I want to remember this version, too. I want to be able to come back to it not only in my memory.
